1. The base layer

- The first layer, placed directly on the skin, wicks away sweat and dries quickly to keep you dry during exercise.
- The best materials are merino wool and synthetic fibers, but avoid cotton at all costs as it absorbs sweat.
- Choose the thickness and weight of the fabric according to your activity and the temperature.
- Avoid irritation with seamless clothing or clothing with flat seams.
- Get clothes with a fitted but comfortable cut.

2. The middle layer

- Its role is to retain your body heat to keep you warm and continue the work of the base layer by wicking away moisture.
- Opt for a relatively fitted garment, but comfortable enough to be worn over the base layer and not restrict your movements.
- Choose the materials for your second layer according to the degree of warmth required for your activity.
- Opt for synthetic fabrics like fleece or choose an insulated coat made of down or synthetic.
- If you are more sensitive to the cold, combine a fleece garment and an insulated coat for more warmth.

3. The outer layer

- The final layer, often called the shell, protects you from the elements.
- Choose a breathable jacket to allow moisture from the inner layers to escape.
- Pay attention to the size! It should fit comfortably over the other layers, without being too loose, to prevent heat loss.
- Opt for sealed seams to prevent water from seeping in and pick lightweight, compressible, and abrasion-resistant materials.
