The main advantage of synthetic materials is that they require little care. Like leather, however, they should be kept clean. To clean, simply place under running water and scrub with a brush to dislodge dirt. Use soap for stubborn stains. Air-dry in an area away from direct sunlight.
Waterproofing these types of materials involves very little effort, since most are already waterproof. The exceptions are nylon and polyester without a waterproof coating or membrane. Although these materials can be treated for waterproofing, they will lose their ventilation properties. A number of products are available; just ask one of our staff members in store.
If you choose a silicone-based product, bear in mind that silicone is known to limit the durability of threads used for stitching.
