The origin of La Cordée goes back to 1953, when the Coopérative La Cordée was founded. Its mission then was to have on hand the equipment needed for scouting.
In 1983, some of our activities were transferred under a new entity: La Cordée Plein air inc. At the same time the Fondation Scoute La Cordée was created in order to administer the profits made by La Cordée Plein air inc. All this in order to contribute to the vitality of the Montreal Scouts organizations for years to come. Since then, more than 3 million dollars have been invested in the Mouvement des Scouts du Montréal Métropolitain. Among other things, this money helped Montreal’s participating Scouts get involved in outdoor activities.
So, since 1983, the commercial entity La Cordée Plein air Inc. is owned both by Coopérative La Cordée (1953) and Fondation Scoute La Cordée. This enables us to reach the goals proposed then; to insure longevity of the Mouvement des Scouts du Montréal Métropolitain.
In that same perspective, we created scholarships for Scouts Group leaders undertaking university studies, The Aurèle and Suzanne Daoust Scolarship program. Plus, we subsidize organizations that are directly helping outdoor activity growth through their outdoor activity centers with our Retour aux Sources program.
So, through the Fondation Scoute La Cordée, La Cordée Plein Air Inc.’s main goal is to contribute to the future of our youth and healthiness of Québec’s outdoor possibilities and not aiming at profit just for its own sake.
Bonds between Fondation Scoute La Cordée and the Scouts Movement have been and continue to be very strong.
